FAQ

  • What system can I use to start my locs and how long does it actual take to begin the matting process? It’s all down to the texture and the length of your hair, and can also depend on the process used. We have outlined the five main ways that you can start your locs;
    • Single Twist/Comb Twist – This method is one of the most popular systems used here at Eftal to start loc formation as it encourages the hair to matt quicker. This method is suitable for most hair types and can take 45min – 2hrs depending on the length of your hair.
    • 2 Strand Twist – This method is also one of the popular systems used, but it can take a little longer to matt and start forming locs. This method is suitable for most hair types and can take 1 – 2 hrs depending on the length of your hair.
    • Interlocking – This technique is where hair is weaved in by using a pin or a crochet needle and it encourages the hair to matt quicker. This method is suitable for most hair types, although tight coiled (afro) hair works better.
    • Instant Locs – This method is a system in which we can give you locs instantly on the same day. This technique is only suitable for straight hair/European hair or hair that is hard to matt. This method can take between 4-7 hours to complete depending on the length of your hair.
    • Bantu Knot – This method is the oldest and probably the best way to start the loc formation. After the process of doing the Bantu knot the hair stays in place and therefore matt’s quicker. Although it is the most cost effective it has proven to be less popular in today’s society as people prefer to see the length of their hair. This technique is suitable for most hair types and great for kinky hair. This method can take between 45mins – 1hr.30mins to complete depending on the length of your hair.
    •

  • How long will it take for my hair to actually matt? This is mainly based on the texture of your hair and the initial process that was used to start the loc formation. The tighter your coils are the quicker your hair will matt but it can take anything between 6weeks - 6 months.

  • How Long Does it Take to Braid a Style? - The average time for the braiding process takes approximately four to seven hours, including consultation. This varies depending on the length of your braids, the thickness of your braids and the amount of braiders on your head. For many, the time it takes to complete a style is well worth the wait, and knowing that you wont have to endure the process again for a few weeks makes the day fly by.
  •

  • Can anyone get their hair braided & will it look "right"? - Anyone can wear braids. Any race, nationality, hair type and any sex - *CAN* wear braids. Societies dictate what is acceptable in our individual communities. If your surrounding environment (whether it is your home or work) tolerates change, creativity and versatility, braids are definitely for you. If you are afraid to be yourself, or you think: "people will talk", then you should begin with a style you are more comfortable with. Do not feel you have to explain your choice to anyone who asks about your choice of hairstyle.

  • What can be done for naturally curly hair without adding extensions? - Naturally curly hair is great for several styles. Consider natural twists styles, cornrows or a nubian corkscrew styles. A drawback for natural styles *without* the use of extensions, usually requires professional grooming and maintenance assistance. Your style will need to be redone within 2 - 4 weeks.

  • How Long Can Braids Remain in? - Call or email to schedule a touch up, take down a style or obtain a new braid appointment no later than 6 weeks after braids are initially done. That will prevent hair breakage and embarassing slippage. Scheduliing an appointment before your braids are too old will also prevent your hair style from looking "TIRED" or "PAST DUE".
